With every new move of lawfare generated by Team Biden or others, a clearer picture develops about that the leftist mantra “our democracy” means, “Democrats get power and you can’t do anything about it.”
It makes me equal parts sad and angry because the thing the left claims to care about, our representative form of government, is the thing they desire to implode.
It’s worse than their disregard and disinterest in letting voters cast votes for the candidates of their choice. Their hubris in deciding who can or can’t be on a ballot will harm the nation long term. Additionally, the Resistance to Donald Trump and MAGA brings language gymnastics to justify their selfish power play.
There are many reasons to reject Trump before anyone considers Jan. 6, 2021–although the left and Never Trumpers on the right are obsessed with it. I am on record writing that Trump must step away from election 2024. Yet, our elites act like they know what’s happening, and they don’t care about the harm it will inflict on America.
The recent decision by the Colorado Supreme Court, on a 4-3 vote, to keep Doanld Trump off the ballot there could easily land before the U.S. Supreme Court in 2024. There are folks on both sides of the political spectrum suggesting the Colorado justices could get rebuked by the high court. It includes The Washington Post. Maine entered this ring Thursday with their Secretary of State duplicating Colorado.
Some red states are weighing keeping Biden off the ballot. Did elites not consider there would be an equal and opposite reaction? How could anyone with an ability to reason not see that?
Meanwhile, leftist Samuel Moyn, a Yale University professor, drew the following conclusion against Colorado, and now Maine:
An equally grave concern is what happens in the short and long run when self-styled democrats refuse the grubbiness of democracy itself. I suspect the backlash to constitutionally disqualifying Trump would be enormous. If that happens, it isn’t clear ‘our democracy’ will survive the storm into which a Colorado court might just have piloted the ship of state. Regardless, it would be a strange way of responding to the most plausible truth—among so many baleful lies—that Trump has stood for: that America’s ongoing crisis is a result of elite failure, which is never going to be addressed so long as popular control of politics is seen as worth circumventing, rather than reclaiming.
The media has crowned itself the arbiter of “our democracy,” while trumpeting everything leading to this crisis. Also, Trump is not alone with roadblocks to the ballot.
U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips, Marianne Williamson, and progressive commentator Cenk Uygur have all announced plans to seek the Democratic party nomination for president. Yet, in the states of Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Massachusetts, the Democratic parties there only submitted President Joe Biden’s name for the presidential primaries.
In Colorado, the lawfare strategy keeps Trump off the ballot, but in the Democratic party, they work behind the scenes to eliminate opponents to the president. “Our democracy” now means clearing the ballot so voters have no options.
Meanwhile, both parties have had candidates questioning the outcomes of elections the past 20 years, 2000, 2004, 2016, 2020. We have millions of Americans who believe election 2020 was rigged. And Hillary Clinton maintains the Russians helped Trump steal 2016. What do these bureaucrats think those doubts about our system of self-government are doing to confidence in the system? Are they trying to rid America of elections? Are they seeking a civil war?
Outside of the irony of both parties barking about rigged or stolen elections, one piece of irony is near prophetic and the other focuses on authoritarianism.
Jesse Kelly promotion from The First TV.
The First TV host Jesse Kelly interviewed Steve Deace of The Blaze on Dec. 15, four days before the Colorado Supreme Court decision, discussing the folks doing everything to stop Trump at all costs. The interview runs from 8:24 to 17:24 on this show. Deace stated:
This is the plan, and if you have a brain, and you're willing to see it objectively, it is very obvious. Now, it's not a foolproof plan. These people are largely fools. They just look brilliant because they often go unopposed. When you're not opposed, you look brilliant, you win every chess match when the other guy doesn't make any moves.
So we don't have to sit here and suffer this fate, but we need a plan, and our plan needs to be more than ‘this gets me the most clicks on Twitter, this gets me the most votes on iTunes, this gets me booked on Fox News tonight.’ We're gonna need more than a plan tonight, Jesse, because the people we're up against are not simply doing this for profit or business, but it's a real movement. It's a dark one, and they're going to execute their plan no matter how many clicks you're accumulating over here.
One of the other arguments coming from the “our democracy” media is the claim that Trump is a dangerous authoritarian, as if he’s the only president who demanded anything. One could make this contention of former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. President Joe Biden, with “our democracy” media protection, has:
Overseen the censorship apparatus that spawned the Missouri v Biden case before the Supreme Court;
Mandated the covid-19 vaccine on federal employees, and big U.S. businesses before it was withdrawn when courts shot it down; and
Used climate change as the premise to impose new regulations on Americans, such as getting rid of gas stoves, and other appliances.
No one who has done the above and much more, with media defense, should ever lecture anyone about authoritarianism.
You have no credibility.
