Anything goes.
Democrats sent that message to cities like New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, and Portland since the summer 2020 George Floyd riots.
Antifa got the message.
With President Donald Trump deporting illegal immigrants, Antifa members believe they can attack federal immigration and border patrol agents. During those BLM riots, Antifa demonstrated violence. Antifa stands for anti-fascist, with a focus on anti-racist and anti-capitalist activities. Antifa allegedly is responsible for at least two recent attacks against ICE facilities.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reports a 700 percent increase in attacks against ICE agents between January 21, 2024 and June 30, 2024 and the same time in 2025.
Andy Ngo, a reporter who covers Antifa, is chronicling their attacks against ICE.
In three weeks, June 14 to July 7, attacks occurred at ICE facilities in Portland, Alvarado, Texas, and McAllen, Texas.
Federal officials are investigating if the increase in attacks on federal agents and facilities is coordinated by any person or groups.
June 14 in Portland: A Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agent helped arrest someone at the Portland ICE facility when he felt a sharp pain in the back of his head, KGW in Portland reported. A second person kicked a federal officer and stands accused of also kicking tear gas canisters at federal agents. Ngo reported that Ginovanni Brumbelow and Joshua Cartrette are with Antifa in Portland. Ngo has reported a total of 21 Portland Antifa activists have been arrested there amid ongoing violence at Portland ICE. The actions by Antifa at the Portland ICE facility grabbed the attention of border czar Tom Homan, He told Larry Kudlow on Fox Business that he’d travel to Portland following five weeks of violence there.

July 4 at Prairieland ICE Detention in Alvarado, Texas, 25 miles south of Fort Worth: “Eleven people face charges after a ‘planned ambush’ on an ICE facility in Alvarado where a group intended ‘to kill ICE corrections officers,’ according to law enforcement officials,” Fox 4 in Dallas reported. Ten people were arrested and charged with three counts of attempted murder of federal officers. One local police officer was shot in the neck and survived. This group had AR-15 assault rifles, ammo, and body armor to prove how serious they were. Ngo reported on X, “This is the most brazen Antifa attack in American history to date.” Those accused, as reported by the DOJ, are: Elizabeth Soto, Fort Worth; Maricela Rueda, Fort Worth; Ines Soto, Fort Worth; Savanna Batten, Fort Worth; Seth Sikes, Kennedale; Bradford Morris (trans name "Meagan Morris"), Dallas; Cameron Arnold (trans name "Autumn Hill"), Dallas; Joy Gibson, Dallas; Zachary Evetts, Waxahachie; Nathan Baumann, College Station; and Daniel Rolando Sanchez, no picture.
Nancy Larson, acting U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas, stated the following:
‘This was an egregious attack on federal and local law enforcement officers, and it is part of an increasing trend of violence against them. This will not be tolerated. Those who use violence against law enforcement officers will be found, and they will be prosecuted with the toughest criminal statutes and penalties that we have available to us.’
An FBI manunt is underway for Benjamin H. Song who DOJ officials believe is the sniper responsible for attempted murder of a federal officer in the “ambush” in Alvarado, Texas on July 4. NgoComment July 9, 2025
Ngo reported Thursday an FBI manhunt is underway for the alleged Antifa sniper in this crime, Benjamin H. Song. It is believed Song hid in the woods near the ICE facility in Alvarado before escaping. Song was a U.S. Marine Corps reservist from 2011-16 and was discharged for unknown reasons, Ngo reported. Song has been connected to multiple incidents in Texas in recent years. Reports suggest the Alvarado attack was similar to an Antifa attack on an ICE facility in Tacoma, Wash. in 2019. As the cases move forward, along with the investigation, additional charges are possible.
July 7 at 6 a.m. in McAllen, Texas: Ryan Louis Mosqueda, 27, of Ludington, Mich., opened fire at a Border Patrol facility with an assault rifle. The facility’s door was riddled with bullet holes. The assault injured two officers and one Border Patrol employee before Mosqueda was shot and killed. He had no prior record.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated the following, as CBS News reported:
‘Yesterday's heinous and unprovoked attack in McAllen could have been a bloodbath if not for the fearless actions of Border Patrol and McAllen law enforcement. This vile assault on our officers is a disgusting escalation fueled by toxic rhetoric vilifying those who protect our borders. This must end now, and those stoking this violence will face consequences.’
The good news is when these attacks have occurred local law enforcement and ICE or border patrol agents have quashed the violence. However, the escalation cannot be denied.
This either gets met with the necessary force and punishment, or there will be ICE or border patrol agents who die.
Samuel Rodriguez wrote an opinion piece for The Hill at the time of the riots against ICE in Los Angeles in June, with Antifa escalation there. Rodriguez is a pastor and president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, representing millions of Christians worldwide.
He wrote the following:
A segment of our population, especially among younger generations, has been captivated by a narrative that rejects the rule of law and lacks any foundational understanding of our constitutional republic. Worse still, there is a spiritual void and a lack of prophetic bandwidth to discern the difference between justice and vengeance, between righteous indignation and reckless rage.
A nation that allows attacks on law enforcement officers—at any level of government—without the necessary punishment, eventually will cease to be a peaceful society.
Worse, the Democratic party has been fanning the flames of these attacks with their rhetoric toward federal officers who are doing the job of the presdident and supported in public opinion polls.
And an Axios report on Monday revealed many in the base believe Democrat members of Congress need to “get shot” on ICE confrontations to resist President Trump.
The most glaring question is: How do peaceful people co-exist in a nation where a sadly growing number on the other side accepts violence as a legitimate response to policy disagreements?
We’re about to find out.
